Dr Andrew Tay is a consultant plastic surgeon in private practice. He graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1990, and upon completion of basic surgical training, became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1995. It was during his basic surgical training that he first became exposed to the fascinating specialty of Plastic Surgery, and this prompted him to enter the advanced specialty training program in Plastic Surgery, at the Singapore General Hospital. He was subsequently awarded the Health Manpower Development Programme scholarship to further his training in plastic surgery and the subspecialty of craniomaxillofacial surgery at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland.
Upon his return to Singapore and successful completion of his Plastic Surgery training in 2002, he was admitted to the Register of Specialists and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He was appointed as Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Singapore General Hospital in 2003, and commenced private practice in 2006. He maintains his ties with the public healthcare sector as a visiting consultant to Singapore General Hospital and to Changi General Hospital, and has been appointed as a clinical teacher at the Faculty of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
Dr Tay’s main clinical interests are cosmetic surgery of the face and body, as well as in craniomaxillofacial surgery (reconstructive surgery of the facial skeleton). He has a particular interest in the management of facial trauma, and has served as a member of the AO Centre Executive Committee (Craniomaxillofacial Surgery). He has participated actively as a member of the AO international teaching faculty for craniomaxillofacial courses. Dr Tay is a member of The Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons, The Singapore Society of Cosmetic (Aesthetic) Surgeons and The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Dr Tay has always had a keen interest in clinical and laboratory research. These include research in the fields of skin and cartilage regeneration, and craniomaxillofacial trauma. These have been presented at international medical conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals such as Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Tissue Engineering.
